When you go to your DVR for the first time it will try to install an ActiveX component. Most of these are not digitally signed, so Internet Explorer by default will block it's installation. You will see a yellow bar like this at the top of your browser. Your DVR will probably be different than the one I am using for this example, but the process to allow the ActiveX is exactly the same. This example is using IE8. It is the same for IE7.

If you do not see the menu as shown above, it may also be found like this:
Click on the 'Security' tab and with 'Internet' highlighted, click on 'Custom Level'
Scroll down until you find these 3 settings. When you click 'Enable' it will highlight it to show you it is not secure. This must be done to install the ActiveX. After we get it installed we will change them back and make the browser secure again. DO NOT surf the internet with these enabled.
Click on 'OK' and this warning will appear:
Click on 'Yes' and then 'OK' again.
Now we click on the gold band at the top of the browser and tell it to install the Add-on.
Now you may enter your username and password to log into the DVR. Once you are logged in, click on the gold band once again and tell it to fix your settings to make it safe to surf the internet once again.
You only need to do this the first time you visit your DVR. Once the ActiveX is installed you will not need to install it again unless you move the DVR to a different URL.
